Pandemic Art
When the pandemic hit in March 2020 I locked down with my partner on the opposite side of London to my studio. Like many artists I struggled to find headspace for creativity in the face of COVID-19. I was caring for my elderly mother, while trying to ensure the welfare of my father who was inaccessible in a care home, suffering from dementia. I also moved between my partner's home and my own at various points, and gave up my studio altogether in January 2021. Life was unsettled and complicated, with constant assessment of risk and attempts at mitigation. In the face of so much difficulty and complexity, I felt drawn to simple, joyful subjects from the natural world, which was what sustained me on a day to day level.
